PDF annotation for coursework
Study Tools · updated 2026-09-07
Highlighting is easy. Extracting the highlights later is where tools split.
Must-haves
- Highlight export to text or markdown.
- Annotations stored in the PDF itself, not a proprietary sidecar.
- Page-level linking so citations survive.
- Works offline.
| Feature | Why it matters |
|---|
| Standard PDF annotations | Opens anywhere in five years |
| Highlight export | Turns reading into notes without retyping |
| OCR | Scanned readings become searchable |
