Mock exam scores and what they predict
Exams & Credentials · updated 2026-09-07
Mocks under real conditions predict reasonably. Untimed, open-book mocks predict almost nothing.
| Mock conditions | Relation to real score |
|---|
| Timed, closed, no breaks | Close, often within 5-8% |
| Timed, with breaks | Optimistic by 5-10% |
| Untimed | Optimistic by 15-25% |
| With notes | Not comparable |
Reading the result
- Split errors into: did not know, misread, ran out of time.
- Time errors are the cheapest to fix.
- Two mocks beat one. The first is mostly about the format.
